◉ My Teaching Strategy: Track everything and target weaknesses, working through past paper questions to break them down into a step-by-step process. This enables you to attain an understanding of concepts from first principles, which reduces the need for memorisation and sets you up to study maths at higher levels. I frequently ask students questions in order to deepen and confirm their understanding.
◉ Explaining Complex Topics: To help students understand difficult concepts thoroughly, I typically approach questions from three angles: visualisation, intuition and pure maths. This trio of perspectives helps those with different learning styles grasp challenging concepts and provides a deeper understanding of the topic in question. Wherever possible we link concepts back to the real world to make lessons more relevant, engaging and memorable.
◉ Software and Tech: I use three platforms for teaching: lessons are conducted on zoom where we also use Bitpaper, a premium web-based interactive whiteboard. Bitpaper is an essential element of lessons: the whiteboard allows us to write on the same space in real time. This makes the lesson 10x more engaging and productive for you - I'm a big believer that hands on practice is the best way to learn. Finally we use google sheets for analysis and tracking results.
◉ Tracking I use google sheets to record 3 key details: - Past paper performance => mark, grade, grade boundaries, whether the paper was timed and closed book, the date it was completed and a link to the marked paper. - Mistakes analysis => a breakdown of where marks were lost by content category. - Solutions => a 'cheat sheet' of answers to the most common errors made by the student.
