About Max

I recently graduated with Distinction from Cambridge University as a Master of Engineering. I have achieved at the very highest level throughout my academic career. This culminated in being recognised as the best mechanical engineering student to graduate from Cambridge University in 2023. I know what it takes to achieve top grades at any level.

That aside, I'm generally laid back, and have a wide range of hobbies. I was a music scholar at Westminster School, and played football for Cambridge University. I take an interest in everything from history and politics, to the latest football transfer gossip.

My teaching method is straightforward. As a student myself, I have found that schools and many tutors encourage their pupils to blindly regurgitate information in exams, which often results in poor grades simply because the time has not been taken to ensure the students understand the fundamental principles of Maths and Physics behind their work. Therefore I begin immediately by systematically identifying gaps in a student's knowledge or understanding without wasting time on their areas of strength.

Exam technique is also something that is often ruthlessly mis-sold by tutors. While it can have a huge impact on many exams, especially the PAT and ENGAA, it is a set of skills that can be taught comfortably in very few lessons in almost all cases. It is something that I work on with all students, as often very capable students are held back by their in-ability to successfully navigate exams.

I am also able to make concise and effective notes for my students which can help clarify areas that we have worked and used later for revision. As someone who has received personal tuition in the past, I am very aware of which teaching techniques are most effective, and the areas that students often struggle with.

My primary goal is to ensure students achieve their academic goals and to make that process as fun and rewarding as possible.

London transport is on the whole very cheap and effective, but if you would like me to travel to your house, and it is inaccessible via public transport then I may have to charge a travel fee.
