My approach starts with the big picture — before diving into formulas or procedures, I make sure students understand the why behind what they're learning, then reinforce it through hands-on problem-solving. Having trained at Caltech and now working as a researcher in a stem cell lab at Scripps Research, I bring real scientific thinking into every session, not just textbook knowledge but the way scientists and mathematicians genuinely approach problems.
A typical 60-minute lesson begins with a quick review, moves into guided examples where I model my thought process out loud, then shifts to independent practice while I observe and prompt.
I adapt my style, pacing, and examples to each student, and my real-world research background means I can show exactly where classroom concepts live outside the textbook. I work with middle and high school students in math, biology, and chemistry — whether they need to catch up and rebuild foundations, or want to get ahead and prepare for AP exams. The common thread is students who want to truly understand the material, not just get through it.
