About Omar
Hi, I'm Omar! I'm a recent Astrophysics graduate from McMaster University and spent 1.5 years at the Canadian Space Agency, where I led satellite operations and got to contribute to the discovery of many new asteroids and comets (in fact, I have an asteroid named after me!). This Fall I'll be starting my MSc in Astrophysics at the University of Leeds. Outside of research, I've worked as a tutor in both an independent and professional setting for over 3 years. Helping people work through tricky concepts and seeing growth is something I genuinely enjoy.
I'm patient, flexible, and happy to move at whatever pace works best for you. Whether you're completely new to a topic or just trying to iron out a few rough edges, I'll do my best to make sure you leave each lesson feeling more confident than when you came in!

In my experience, helping a student genuinely understand a concept always beats just getting through their homework. While memorizing formulas can get you through a test, it almost always makes studying feel like a chore. I believe that by building a strong foundation in just a few key ideas first, not only does everything else come much more naturally — studying actually becomes enjoyable! This is what sets my lessons apart: rather than drilling you on problem types until something sticks, I like to focus on building the kind of understanding that makes the problems feel easy and intuitive.
Here's what a typical lesson looks like:
- Check-in: We start by figuring out where things actually got confusing — which isn't always where you'd expect. Sometimes a small gap from a year or two back is quietly causing problems in the current material, and catching it early saves a lot of time.
- Concept introduction: I introduce new ideas through a concrete, intuitive example first — something you can picture and reason about — before gradually building toward the more formal or abstract version.
- Problem solving: We work through problems together in increasing difficulty, with you doing the thinking and me guiding the reasoning. Along the way I'll pause to ask questions that check whether the idea has truly clicked, rather than just whether you can replicate the steps.
I find that wrapping up with a fun, real-world challenge problem is a great way to check your comprehension, while demonstrating the practicality of the content you learned.
