About George
I'm a British nuclear physicist with a degree from a UK university and five years of professional experience working in the nuclear energy sector. During my third and fourth years at university I provided regular tutoring to first and second year undergraduate physics students, so teaching the subject is something I have done formally.
I moved to Toronto recently and I'm building my life here while pursuing opportunities in the nuclear and energy sector in Canada, I'm offering tutoring in physics and mathematics to local students. I genuinely enjoy making these subjects click for people, and the one-to-one format suits that well because every student arrives with a different set of gaps and a different way of thinking.
Outside of my professional background, I have experience working with young people. I've volunteered for the past five years at a residential summer camp in the UK for children with disabilities, which gave me a real appreciation for patience, adaptability, and meeting people where they are rather than where you expect them to be. That approach carries directly into how I tutor.
I'm straightforward to work with and easy to talk to. If you're a parent looking for someone who genuinely knows their subject and will treat your child with respect, I'd love to hear from you. Feel free to reach out and we can arrange a free introductory call before anything is booked.

My sessions are one-to-one and tailored entirely to the individual student. I start every new student with a short conversation to find out exactly where they are struggling and why, because in physics and maths there is almost always one earlier concept that hasn't fully clicked yet, and fixing that early makes everything else easier.
A typical session begins with the student telling me what they understand about the topic so far. This tells me quickly where the gaps are. We then work through problems together, starting with something straightforward and building toward harder questions, with me stepping back progressively so the student is doing more of the thinking as the session goes on. I always leave time at the end to recap what we covered and agree on a couple of practice problems to try before next time.
I work directly from the student's school materials, tests, and teacher-issued worksheets, because connecting to what they are actually being assessed on is what moves the grade.
These lessons are aimed at Grade 9 to 12 students studying physics and mathematics on the Ontario curriculum. My background as a nuclear physicist means I can offer genuine depth and real-world context that goes beyond what the textbook provides, which helps students understand the subject rather than just memorize it.

I've volunteered alongside George at the Heswall Disabled Children's Holiday Fund where he has volunteered for several years. Working with children with disabilities takes a particular kind of patience and warmth, and George very much has both - he's the kind of person kids immediately feel comfortable around.
Given all of that, I'd trust him completely in a tutoring setting. Combined with his background as a nuclear physicist, any parent would be lucky to have him.View more recommendations
