About Jwthompson
I’m an 18-year-old first-year Mathematics undergraduate at the University of Bristol, studying on a four-year course with a year abroad. I achieved: Grade 9 in GCSE Maths A* in A-Level Maths A* in A-Level Further Maths I’ve always enjoyed maths and particularly enjoy helping others understand it. As a student myself, I understand how challenging maths can feel and how important it is to have explanations that actually make sense. Being close in age to my students helps me explain ideas in a clear, relatable way, and I’m patient, approachable, and supportive. My goal is not just to help students improve their grades, but to help them feel more confident and comfortable with maths. I’m happy to answer any questions before lessons and adjust my teaching style to suit each student.

My lessons are tailored to each student’s ability, goals, and learning style. Whether you’re aiming to improve confidence, boost grades, or push for top marks, I focus on building a strong understanding of concepts, not just memorising methods. I teach: GCSE Maths A-Level Maths A-Level Further Maths Lessons are structured but flexible, typically involving: Clear explanations of key topics Worked examples step-by-step Guided practice questions Exam-style questions and technique Help breaking down difficult or abstract ideas. Having recently achieved top grades myself, I’m very familiar with exam specifications, common mistakes, and what examiners look for. I aim to make maths feel logical and manageable, even for topics that initially seem intimidating. Lessons can be adapted for: Exam preparation Catching up on missed content Strengthening weaker topics Stretching students aiming for high grades
