About Jana
Hello! I am Jana, and I teach Italian. I was born and raised in Italy, so I am fluent in the language, but sat my GCSEs and A levels in the UK (where i achieved a 9/A*), which means I have a very good understanding of the UK school system, the requirements for Italian at GCSE and A level, as well as my own personal knowledge of Italian. I had to quickly adapt to a new environment and system after moving to the UK, and therefore had to rapidly learn English,so if there is anyone that knows how to quickly learn and apply a new language, it’s me!

I always make sure to speak to my students in Italian as much as I can, which is so crucial for their apprehending of listening and speaking, and also to help them apply grammatical rules within everyday sentences. Exercises/homework set will always be on topics we have gone over in the sessions, and I am more than happy to help with any work that’s been set in school or any questions that students may have regarding the language. I make my lessons engaging through alternating practice questions, grammar rules and reading and writing practice with games and quizzes, because I know learning a language can be tough (and sometimes very discouraging!). Most importantly I will pay close attention to how each individual student engages in the language, and tailor tutoring sessions depending on their performance and their struggles within the subject, to make sure they achieve their full potential and are not only happy with their grade but also enjoy learning Italian. I believe it’s not all about grades, and so I always encourage students to watch movies and read in Italian, so that they can develop the skills to be able to communicate with someone in Italian, and travel with no worries about a language barrier!
