About Lucy
I always struggled to find a really good tutor in these areas of science when I needed that extra bit of help for my leaving certificate.
Given the nature of the subject, it's really important to have a thorough understanding of the field, as, in comparison to other subjects, it's not a learning game; it's an understanding game! I think that's the reason why so many students struggle, as there's more of a focus on learning as opposed to understanding, which won't work in this field.
I'd like to help those students who just need that extra bit of help, give them confidence, and help them towards their goal in their upcoming exam. I think having gone through nearly 10 years of specialized focus on these fields, definitely equip me to pass on my knowledge, expertise and help to those that need it.

Full driver's license, meaning I'm quite flexible with delivering lessons. Can deliver lessons in their own home or online via Microsoft Teams! The typical length of a lesson would range from 1 hour to 2 hours, depending on the students capabilities. I am very flexible with my working hours.
An outline of my structured lessons would involve an initial chat about the students areas of weakness, and work on them in a prioritized order. After this plan is established the ongoing lessons would involve a 45 minute lesson involving visual learning (diagrams) and the final 15 minutes for any additional questions or extra explanations needed. At the end of every lesson there would be a quick revision test based on the lesson taught that day. My lessons are also dependent on the individuals learning preferences, whether this involves visual or physical. I always found flash cards with key definitions and explanations very handy for my exams so these will be provided!
I sat the Junior and Leaving certificate in science, biology and chemistry and then underwent 4 years of University in a Biomedical Science degree and because of this my lessons can be targeted towards Junior certificate Science, Leaving certificate Biology and Chemistry and Third level Biological/Biomedical sciences. I also have experience tutoring age groups 14-16 in Junior Certificate Science.
