About James
My name is James Yim, and I am currently a college student at UC Davis majoring in Biological Sciences. Throughout middle school and high school, my favorite subject was always math. I took math up to AP Calculus BC in high school, scoring a 5 on the AP exam. I saw it as a puzzle: if the right pieces were in the right places, then I would be able to solve the problem. However, I understand that math only gets harder as the years go on, and I would love to make that journey easier for students! My side hobbies include playing volleyball, lifting weights, and spending time with my family.

I teach by training students to simplify a given mathematics problem by walking through the questions, making it easier for them to solve it. Once they are able to better understand what the problems are asking, we test this with many practice problems. A typical lesson would include time to ask questions, solve practice problems, and leave the student with some homework to further solidify the concepts in the student's brain. I am a recent high school graduate and took math classes in college that forced me to use everything I learned from grade school math, so these concepts are very fresh in my head. I can also relate well to these students and understand their struggle as I was in their shoes just a few years ago! These lessons are for students from 6th-12th grade.
