About Candace
I am a 22-year-old recent graduate from Florida Southern College with a B.S. in Biology. My degree focused on molecular biology courses such as biochemistry, microbiology, and genetics. I am taking a few gap years to get more research experience before entering a doctoral program. I am moving to St. Louis, MO this June to work as a Research tech at Washington University School of Medicine. I am passionate about scientific research (cancer research) and aspire to be a professor. My love of teaching shines through during my tutor sessions. I love when the "lightbulb" goes off for students and seeing the excitement that comes from it. Aside from academics, I am passionate about fitness. I lost 40 lbs during my undergraduate career. As a low-income student, I had little knowledge of fitness and nutrition. I focused a lot on learning about it during college. I enjoy lifting weights, swimming, and other forms of cardio. This experience has increased my experience with time management in college.

I am passionate about engaged learning and try to emphasize it as much as possible during my sessions. I combine verbal, written, and visual instruction. I often like to draw while explaining and as we get comfortable with each other, I encourage students to attempt to explain the material back to me to build confidence and understanding. I am always willing to provide PDFs of my illustrations for students. Additionally, my role as a curriculum assistant for biology 1 didn't just involve traditional review sessions. I also provided study tips, time management skills, and provided resources to help students adapt to college. I am more than happy to offer these resources as your tutor. I have worked with dual-enrollment students, community college students, parents and older adults going back to school, and traditional college students. I am open-minded, offering a judgment-free learning environment.
