About Alex
Hi! My name is Alex, and I’m currently in my second year at the University of Toronto, majoring in Biology and minoring in French. I’ve always loved learning and helping others discover the same excitement for understanding new things. As a tutor, I’m patient, supportive, and easy to talk to. I believe that everyone learns at their own pace, and my goal is to make each student feel confident and motivated, even when the material feels challenging. I enjoy breaking down complex topics into clear, simple steps and creating a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions. Outside of academics, I teach Muay Thai to kids and love spending time outdoors hiking. These experiences have helped me develop strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to keep others calm and focused under pressure. My teaching approach focuses on patience, understanding, and building confidence. I believe that every student learns differently, so I adapt my lessons to fit each individual’s learning style, whether they learn best through visual examples, practice problems, or guided discussion. I prioritize creating a comfortable and supportive environment where students feel safe asking questions and making mistakes, because that’s how real learning happens.
During lessons, I use a mix of clear explanations, interactive examples, and problem-solving strategies. I also emphasize understanding why something works, not just how to do it, so students develop strong critical-thinking skills and long-term comprehension.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Warm-up (5 minutes): Quick review of previous material or check-in on any challenges since the last session.
Core Lesson (25–35 minutes): Step-by-step breakdown of new concepts, using examples and visuals to reinforce understanding.
Practice (15–20 minutes): Students work through guided questions or real examples while I provide feedback and support.
Wrap-up (5 minutes): Summary of key takeaways and assignment of a small, focused task for independent practice.
