About Norberto
Since early 2005, I have been connected with education. I started as a tutor for adult night classes and today, for the last 2 years, I have been connecting students with language and culture at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder). All this educational insight has shaped my way of teaching grammar, pronunciation and performance evaluation and also given me the tools to create conversational and interactive activities that help students with different learning styles to overcome barriers identified before. Because of my experience as a language learner student (English, Italian, French, Japanese) I am able to understand my students’ position in class. It is my first hand and best experience that has helped me shape my classes. Since I am from Puerto Rico, a country with two official languages, I remember the process of learning a second language (English) and the things that help me become proficient. This helped me when I was a teacher at Highline Academy Charter School where I was a Spanish teacher for Kindergarten through 5th grade. At CU Boulder I have not only taught regular classes, but I have also been a tutor of the Spanish Modified Program. This program supports students with and without diagnosed language learning disabilities/challenges in their process of completing the university’s language requirement. This has taken my expertise to another level.

Language teaching should always be a fun one. Sometimes is good to go over grammar and specific points of it since we can't get around them. In my case, I always prefer an immersion type of approach where I only speak with the student in Spanish and, if needed, I will use my english. This has proven to be one of the best ways to learn language.
