About Mari-Lise
In my current capacity as Researcher & Projects Manager at the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) marine unit I have co-authored seven chapters in the 2018 National Biodiversity Assessment and have taken initiative to co-ordinate the national Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VMEs) task team. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in science with a focus on South African VMEs. I am passionate about science, and in particular, value research that is used for management and policy decision making. In future, I hope to be involved in applied research that allows for informed decision-making to safeguard our natural resources while maximising economic and social benefits.
