About Nicole
My name is Nicole and I am a recent graduate from Berklee College of Music. I graduated with a Bachelor of Music with a focus in songwriting and voice as my primary instrument. During my time at Berklee, I took a number of theory based classes, including Harmony 1-4 (jazz theory) and Tonal Harmony 1-2 (classical theory). I am originally from Vancouver, Canada and I am now living and working as an independent singer/songwriter in LA. I specialize in rock and pop styles, and my philosophy is to create a welcoming and comfortable environment free of stress and anxiety for all my students. I believe the best results come from a genuine love of music and desire to learn.

I believe music theory is one of the greatest tools to put yourself ahead of the game in the music industry. These lessons are for all ages and levels, and we'll take it at whatever pace best suits you and your learning style. We'll learn how to read, notate, and analyze music, as well as learn about concepts such as key signatures, scales, intervals, chords, and modes. These lessons will be mostly based on jazz and contemporary music theory rather than classical theory, so these lessons are perfect for anyone interested in pop, rock, jazz, or any other contemporary styles.
Additionally, I also offer Ear Training / Sight Reading lessons for those a little more experienced and who want to learn how to sing written rhythms and melodies as well as notate rhythms and melodies from simply hearing them. Training your ears and learning to sight read puts your theory knowledge into practical use, and is extremely useful in auditions and/or jam settings. I use the solfege method with movable "do," which makes it easy to switch keys and learn how to sing different scales.
