About Aimen

I am a first year university student studying Economics and Data Science. I completed my A-levels in Maths, Economics, Politics, Urdu and EPQ achieving A*A*AA and my GCSEs were all 9-7s. I find being a student is very helpful for the students I tutor as I provide very current and useful resources as I too have recently sat the exams they will be sitting. It allows for better understanding seeing them from a student perspective which allows me to understand everybody learns in different ways which I would love to adopt when teaching different students!

I am an enthusiastic tutor who is passionate about making sure my students really understand and excel in their studies! I make lessons interactive and fun as I believe it's more helpful for the student when learning! I provide original resources made and used by me to ensure students are learning efficiently. I currently tutor students from Year 9 -12 in the UK for their GCSEs and A-levels, receiving positive feedback. The typical length of my lesson is an hour though this can be flexible per my students' needs. The structure of lessons usually follow a recall activity to begin, learning content and then a heavy focus on exam technique. I make sure to frame my lessons around exam preparation as it is the most important!

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I first developed an interest in tutoring when I helped classmates and younger students at school. I enjoyed taking a difficult idea, breaking it down step by step, and watching the “lightbulb moment” when it finally clicked for someone. Over time, my passion for subjects like Maths, Biology, Chemistry, and Economics grew, and tutoring became a natural way for me to share that passion and help others succeed.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I tutor Maths from Primary up to A-level, Biology and Chemistry up to GCSE, and Economics at A-level.

In Edexcel GCSE and A-level Maths, I enjoy algebra, calculus, and problem-solving, particularly when students see how abstract ideas (like differentiation or integration) can be applied to real situations. Probability and statistics are also rewarding to teach because students often gain confidence once they see the logical steps behind them.

In AQA Biology GCSE, Topic 2 (Cell Biology) is one of my favourites – I find cell structure and processes fascinating because they underpin everything in biology, from human health to biotechnology.

In AQA Chemistry GCSE, I particularly enjoy Topic 7 (Organic Chemistry). I like guiding students through how different families of compounds interlink, as it ties theory to practical real-world uses like fuels, polymers, and pharmaceuticals.

In Edexcel A-level Economics, Theme 4 (Global Perspective) is the area I enjoy most. I like discussing globalisation, trade, and development economics, as they connect theory to the challenges and opportunities faced by the modern world. Students often find it eye-opening to see how textbook models relate to global inequality, trade wars, or international cooperation.

If I had to choose areas I like less, I’d probably say the more repetitive, memory based topics such as recalling every reaction condition in Chemistry. Still, I always try to make them engaging by linking them back to the bigger picture.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, my GCSE Maths teacher had a big impact on me. They had the ability to make even the most daunting problems approachable, showing us that every problem has a logical solution if you take it step by step. Their patience and encouragement gave me confidence in a subject that can often intimidate students, and I try to replicate that same supportive teaching style with my own learners.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor needs patience, adaptability, and empathy. Every student learns differently, so it’s important to find the right way of explaining something to each individual. A tutor should also build a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, as that’s how learning happens. Strong subject knowledge is essential, but just as important is the ability to boost a student’s confidence and motivation.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I still remember the first time I truly struggled with a subject – early on in GCSE Maths. There was a point when I doubted whether I could ever “get it.” But my teacher’s patient guidance and belief in me helped me turn that around. The feeling of finally solving a problem I had once thought impossible gave me such a sense of pride. That moment taught me the importance of resilience, encouragement, and the right support system – and it’s exactly the feeling I want to help my own students experience.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Each subject has presented unique challenges. In Maths, consistency and practice are key – missing a small step can make the whole problem collapse. In Biology and Chemistry, the challenge was memorising large amounts of content while also applying it in an exam setting. Economics, however, was the most different: unlike the others, it required strong essay-writing skills, the ability to evaluate and build arguments, and to apply theory to real-world examples under time pressure. Balancing these different demands taught me organisation, versatility, and exam technique – skills I now pass on to my students.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I have a strong passion for teaching, but more specifically, I love exploring the overlaps between economics and the sciences. For example, the economics of healthcare or the environmental impact of chemical processes. Reading about these connections has shown me that no subject exists in isolation, and I try to bring that multi perspective view into my tutoring. I believe this not only helps students learn content but also understand the wider relevance of what they’re studying.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I think what makes me a Superprof is a combination of subject knowledge, adaptability, and passion. I tailor my lessons to each student’s individual needs, whether that’s exam preparation, building confidence, or exploring a subject in greater depth. I aim not only to help students achieve good results but also to spark curiosity and enjoyment in the subjects themselves. Above all, I’m committed to helping students realise their potential and feel proud of their progress.
