About Harry
I am a Chemical Engineering MEng student at the University of Surrey, currently in my fourth year, with a genuine passion for science and mathematics that goes back to my school days. I achieved straight 9s at GCSE in both Science and Maths, A-levels in Chemistry and Mathematics, and received outstanding achievement awards in both subjects from my school.
I have direct experience teaching young people. I volunteered as a kung fu instructor for children aged 5–12 over a three-year period, planning and delivering sessions tailored to mixed age and ability groups, building discipline and confidence, and maintaining a safe learning environment throughout. I have also worked as a private tutor, delivering one-to-one lessons in science and maths to a primary school aged child, adapting my approach to suit their age and ability and explaining complex concepts in an accessible, engaging way.
Outside of university, I have spent nearly five years working in a fast-paced customer-facing environment, which has given me strong communication skills and the ability to work well with a wide range of people. I am patient, approachable, and take pride in explaining things clearly, whether that’s a complex chemical process or a tricky maths problem.

My teaching philosophy is simple: master the fundamentals to a level beyond what the exam demands, and no question will ever catch you off guard. If a student can do something harder than what they'll face in the test, the test becomes straightforward.
In practice, this means I don't just teach to the syllabus.
For example, when working on division with a previous student, I pushed them beyond the expected level until they were comfortably solving five-digit by two-digit problems, far exceeding what was required. The result is genuine confidence, not just familiarity with a few common question types.
I'm a third-year MEng Chemical Engineering student at the University of Surrey, with A-levels in Chemistry (with an outstanding achievement award), Biology and Maths, and top grades at GCSE across Science, Maths, and more. I have hands-on tutoring experience working one-to-one with a primary school-aged child, adapting my explanations to suit their age and ability.
Lessons are typically one hour, tailored entirely to the student's current level and goals. I teach Maths, Chemistry, and Science at primary, GCSE, and A-level, and adapt my approach based on where the student is struggling, whether that's understanding core concepts, exam technique, or building confidence.
