About Katrijn
I only have availability left during school hours (9am-3pm), so for students attending higher education.
I am a mathematician. I have a masters degree in maths from 2006. I obtained an additional teaching degree in 2008 that qualifies me for all things maths and IT.
After graduation, I taught maths and coding, then transitioned to tutoring. I love tutoring because it gives me the opportunity to tailor to the individual in front of me. As much as I loved teaching, in any lesson there is at least one person who doesn’t benefit from the approach that works for most. With tutoring I can immediately pick up on strengths and things that could use some help in strengthening.

My goal as a tutor is to make you see and understand the logic that underpins all maths, so you can deepen your understanding, feel confident and apply your knowledge to whichever question is thrown your way.
I want you to leave each tutoring session feeling more confident and capable. I believe that if you find maths mysterious or absurdly difficult, then that means that things were not explained to you in a way that made sense. Mathematical understanding is like a huge tower of wooden blocks: if one bit of understanding is missing - because a topic was not properly explained to you or you were ill during a crucial lesson- than it’s really really hard to grasp what follows. Struggling with maths is not a failure on your part, or an inherent flaw. We just need to identify which blocks are missing to give you a better foundation.
I have taught and tutored children from age six, third level students and adults who returned to college. My main expertise is working with students at university level . I worked at Ghent University’s engineering department for 11 years. I can help you understand how exercises are solved, demystify the logic used in theory, and help you solve old exam problems.
I can help you with
- Calculus: from basic functions to solving multivariable differential equations.
- Algebra: from solving 3x + 2 = 8 to finding the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a complex matrix.
- Trigonometry: from recognising which type of angle it is, to using sine, cosine and tangent in any way needed to solve equations.
- Geometry: from calculating the area of a rectangle to identifying which quadratic surface corresponds to a given quadratic equation in x, y and z.
- Number theory: from working with fractions to using the geometric representation of complex numbers or expressing sine and cosine as complex exponential functions.
- Arithmetic: from learning how binary numbers work to multiplying equations in Galois fields.
- Logic: from how to interpret true/false statements to proving which question you should ask to get out of a room if you have 1 door that leads to freedom, 1 door that leads to doom, 1 truth teller and 1 who lies and only 1 question.
- Graph theory, shortest path algorithms etc
- Coding: as mathematical logic underpins all programming, I taught and tutored beginners courses in Java and Python. I can help you understand the way of thinking needed to transform a question to a working algorithm.

Perfect! Katrijn tutored my son for just 5 months prior to his leaving certificate when he was failing Maths on ordinary level - he passed with a distinction thanks to her excellent tutoring. Incredibly bright, always patient and kind and able to explain clearly. Highly recommend.
- Almaree’s son is a joy to work with. He is eager to learn and he looks at the topics we covered in between lessons so that insights are retained over time. Once he grasps a concept he can immediately build on it, which makes him an ideal student for maths tutoring. He is a pleasure to work with.Katrijn's response :

I am grateful to have had Katrijn as a tutor. She helped me refresh and advance my mathematics skills after being away from education for 25 years and not taking maths for my matriculation exams. Her tutoring enabled me to achieve my goal of attending university and supported me during my first year. From our first session, Katrijn made learning enjoyable. She was very patient, which helped me build a solid foundation. Katrijn provided clear explanations and real-world examples, which helped me keep engaged and motivated.
She helped me gain the confidence and skills needed to meet my math requirements for university. I highly recommend Katrijn to anyone seeking a dedicated tutor.Katrijn is an amazing, very knowledgeable tutor with lots of enthusiasm, patience, empathy, clarity and kindness.
I have noticed a positive change in understanding and grades since my daughter started working with Katrijn. Highly recommend.
Lucy WalshI have witnessed Katrijn tutoring at my university for 11 years, and the students absolutely loved her. Her sessions were almost always fully booked. Katrijn is experienced in a wide range of math subjects, from the very basics to advanced university-level topics. She is skilled at explaining all of them very clearly.
