Kalpagam is a great and fantastic friend. Her language skills are excellent and she exerts a positive influence on her students. She is a great mentor who is amiable. It is amazing how Kalpagam connects with students, for, she is firm, fair and consistent which helps to build a good rapport. I sat in her class 20 years ago and owe her for introducing me to poetry as not only an academic exercise, but also as a reflection of our common humanity. That emphasis on human connection made her a well-loved and popular teacher. While I no longer remember Ode to a Nightingale, I remember her devotion to our growth as students and human beings. I had the pleasure of being Nandini Ma'am's student in Eighth grade. She taught us English literature and grammar. One of my big takeaways from this class was the confidence that Nandini ma'am instilled in me. She guided us through multiple forms of literature, pushed us to think critically and provided us with tools to support self-directed learning and inquiry. These tools not only benefitted me in English class, but also in other subjects. Some of these tools such as mindmaps, annotations, using graphic charts to organize information, are still relevant in my work life after 15 years.
As an ex-student I would highly recommend Nandini Ma'am's English classes, as they are an avenue to discover one's own creativity with consistent and strong guidance.
