  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in architecture developed early, but it became truly defined during my academic training and later through professional practice in the UK and Spain. As I progressed in my career, I became increasingly aware of the disconnect between architectural education and real-world practice; particularly in digital tools and workflows.

Private tutoring emerged naturally as students, graduates, and junior professionals began seeking guidance not just on software, but on how architects actually work. Teaching became a way to transfer practical knowledge gained over a decade of professional experience as an ARB-chartered architect.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach architectural design software and professional workflows, including Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, and Grasshopper, as well as portfolio development, drawing standards, and interview preparation. I also work extensively with the Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) for architectural communication and presentation.

    I particularly enjoy:

    - Learning by doing: modelling as a thinking and problem-solving tool

    - Revit project setup, coordination, and drawing output

    - Rhino and Grasshopper as design exploration and logic-building tools

    - Turning concepts into clear, professional documentation

I am less interested in software taught in isolation, without context or purpose. For me, tools are meaningful only when they support design intent and professional outcomes.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I was influenced by teachers and senior architects who prioritised clarity, rigour, and real-world thinking. The most impactful mentors were those who explained why decisions were made; not just how. This pragmatic approach strongly informs the way I teach today.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    A good tutor must be:

    - Technically competent and up to date

    - Clear and structured in their explanations

    - Patient and adaptable to different learning styles

    - Honest and realistic about industry expectations

Most importantly, a good tutor understands that learning is not about memorisation, but about building confidence and independent thinking.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my studies and early professional years, I often learned software through trial, error, and long hours of experimentation. That process taught me that modelling is not just production; it is a way of thinking. This is why I now teach software as a design and learning tool, not simply as a technical requirement.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the main challenges was adapting between different professional cultures and standards while working in both the UK and Spain. Another ongoing challenge is keeping pace with constantly evolving digital tools. However, this continuous learning is also what keeps the profession engaging and relevant.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion lies in helping students develop clarity ; both technically and conceptually. I am particularly passionate about using modelling tools, including Rhino and Grasshopper, as a way to learn by doing, experiment, and understand design logic rather than feeling constrained by software.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

I combine 10 years of professional architectural experience, ARB chartership, and international practice with a structured, student-focused teaching approach. I tailor my sessions to real projects, real workflows, and real career goals. Students do not just learn software, they learn how to think and work like architects.
