About Clarque
Hello! My name is Clarque Brown, and I am an educator with 10 years of experience across multiple educational settings. A little bit about me:
- I graduated from Amherst College with a bachelor's degree in psychology and from Harvard University with a master's degree in education.
- My entire career has centered around developing effective curriculum and practicing student-centered pedagogy to the benefit of many different types of students.
- I have successfully taught English literature, writing, English as a second or foreign language, and social studies to students ages 8 to 52 in a variety of educational settings, including (but not limited to) k-12 schools, online tutoring, and adult literacy centers
- Outside of teaching, I enjoy many creative passions and love to encourage creativity in my students
I am passionate about empowering students, no matter their age, identity, or experience. I look forward to working with you or your child!

Learning to be a strong writer is an incredibly empowering and important skill! As a graduate of two prestigious institutions and experienced, highly-rated educator, I know the power of effective writing and am passionate about sharing what I've learned with students.
I teach students to express themselves clearly and concisely and accurately convey their ideas. Together we will:
- write, edit, and revise practice essays about topics that matter to the student
- understand the key components of written work, such as thesis and supporting details, and learn to employ them with precision
- work on school assignments, college application essays, and personal projects
- gradually intensify instruction so that the student is always building their strengths and improving!
Upon request, I am also available to work with adults.
