About Val
I have achieved top grades at GCSE and A-level, both on the new specifications. Over the past 7 years, I have also taken part in multiple maths competitions and extra tests, including STEP, 11+, and UKMT (both senior and intermediate). I was interviewed for an MMath course at Cambridge and achieved a Gold award in this year's Senior UKMT Challenge.
I have had many years of experience helping and teaching both my peers and students from other schools, including offering support in maths clubs and catch-up sessions for other schools. More recently, I have gained experience tutoring informally for maths competitions and helping students in lower years focus their revision.
While I know I have helped people on their way to attaining and frequently exceeding their desired grades and results, that is their achievement, not mine. Instead, I am proud of the moments where I can pinpoint that something I have said or shown them has been the hint they needed to understand the problem that's been plaguing them.

I pride myself on friendly and approachable support on individual questions, exam technique, topic explanations, and general maths revision. As well as tutoring content, I am particularly talented with problem-solving, and can teach anyone the key tricks to finding the "lightbulb moment" of any question. Even the toughest end-of-paper questions can be aced if you know the right questions to ask yourself to help you strike at the heart of the problem.
