About Amie

Over the course of my schooling, professional life, and personal growth and travel, I have come to understand the importance of having a voice. If English is the voice you want to use, I have the experience to help you find that.

For over 20 years, I worked in government relations and advocacy in the United States and several outside developing countries. I have visited almost 40 countries and worked professionally in nine of them.

During that time, I have enjoyed great professional success representing or consulting for Members of the United States Congress, State of Florida elected officials, political party campaigns in the US and in other countries, civic and civil society organizations internationally, advocacy groups of all kinds, and Fortune 500 companies.

Today, I am a burgeoning writer and blogger. I work as a freelance writer and have also been published in online travel and lifestyle blogs and magazines. I am also now preparing to relocate and live in my fifth country in Asia.

I have not only developed a level of English writing, negotiating, speaking, and listening skills needed to work at the highest levels of any business and government but I have developed a unique style of writing that makes readers feel like they are along the journey.

I currently hold a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from the International TEFL Academy, along with a Bachelors of Science Degree from Florida State University in Political Science and International Relations.

About the lesson

First, together we will assess your current English proficiency level for reading, writing, listening, and speaking, so we have an accurate place to start. Then, we will use the areas where you are most proficient to build on those that could use improvement or where you lack confidence.

Next, we will discuss why you want to learn English. Are you trying to get into an English-speaking college or technical school? Then let’s start preparing for the ESOL test together.

Do you need English to perform your job better? Let’s practice with some real-world experiences you may encounter on a daily basis to help you better prepare.

Or maybe you just moved to an English-speaking country and want to speak more with your neighbors? Whatever the reason, I will tailor your lessons so that you’re learning vocabulary you’ll use every day.

Lastly, I will get an understanding of where your personal interests lay. Are you someone who enjoys cooking or traveling? Are you a cinephile with an interest in old Italian classics? Maybe you’re a fitness junkie who likes to listen to English? Whatever it is, we will use English from those interests so the lessons feel less like work and more like delving further into your personal interests and passions!

I offer 1-Hour English Tutoring Sessions providing new information and language lessons, writing, reading, or listening assignments, and any other materials you may need. I also offer 30-Minute English Conversational Sessions that allow you to practice material covered at any time prior - even material covered through other studies.

The lesson plan we create will include a series of these Tutoring or Conversational Sessions. Once the lesson plan is created we move at YOUR pace. Zip through certain lessons or take your time with others - it’s your call. That’s how I make personal tutoring as personal as possible!

I do not believe someone’s paycheck should limit or determine their education - only their mind, effort, and willingness to achieve should determine that! Therefore I offer a few options for pricing and am willing to consider others that might work better for you.

Our first lesson is always 60 minutes and is always FREE. It includes a four-part English proficiency assessment, a short English lesson, and a writing assignment. You are never obligated to purchase any additional lessons going forward.

After that my suggested rates are as follows:

Book 1 1-Hour English Tutoring Lesson: $14
*Due at scheduling of class.
*Free cancelation up to 4 hours before the start of the class.

Book 5 1-Hour English Tutoring Lessons: $12/each
*Payment for the first two classes due at signing of contract. Remaining payments due at scheduling of each class.
*Must be scheduled within 90 days.
*Free cancelation up to 4 hours before the start of the class.

Book 1 30-Minute English Conversation Lesson: $10
*Due at scheduling of class.
*Free cancelation up to 4 hours before the start of the class.

Book 5 30-Minute English Conversation Lessons: $8/each
*Payment for the first two classes due at signing of contract. Remaining payments due at scheduling of each class.
*Must be scheduled within 90 days.
*Free cancelation up to 4 hours before the start of the class.
