About Jinwoo
I understand that choosing the right tutor is an important decision. My goal is to create a learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and truly understanding the material.
I was admitted to Software Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Waterloo with distinguished scholarships, and I have experience tutoring high school math and science, including preparation for the CSMC and Euclid Mathematics Contests. Through my own academic journey, I learned that strong results come not only from hard work, but also from clear explanations, consistent practice, and the right learning strategy.
As a tutor, I am patient, organized, and results-driven. I focus on helping students build a solid foundation, develop problem-solving confidence, and explain concepts in their own words. I also value professionalism and clear communication, so students and parents can expect structured lessons, honest feedback, and consistent progress updates.
My goal is not just to help students get better grades, but to help them become more confident, critical, independent learners.

My approach as a tutor is based on one core belief: if a student truly understands a concept, they should be able to explain it clearly and simply in their own words. Because of this, I focus not only on solving problems, but also on helping students actively explain their reasoning and build confidence in the process.
Rather than relying on passive learning, I encourage students to participate throughout the lesson. I ask guiding questions, use reverse questioning, and have students walk me through their thought process step by step. This helps me identify exactly where they are confused and ensures that they are not just memorizing formulas, but fully understanding the concepts behind them.
A typical lesson begins with a short review of previous material and a quick check-in on homework or questions from school. Then, we move into the main topic of the day, where I explain the key concepts in a clear and structured way. After that, the student practices problems with my guidance, gradually moving toward independent problem-solving. I also give short weekly tests or quizzes to track progress consistently and identify areas that need more review.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my emphasis on active learning, clear explanation, and long-term improvement. I want students to become independent learners who can approach unfamiliar problems with confidence. I also maintain very transparent communication with parents by sharing progress, strengths, weaknesses, and future learning plans.
My lessons are best suited for middle school and high school students studying math and science, including students preparing for school exams, strengthening fundamentals, or preparing for math contests such as the CSMC and Euclid Mathematics Contests.
