About Alexandra
I'm an actress-turned-filmmaker with 40 years professional experience in film, theatre, TV and voiceover.
I came to directing late but in the last ten years I started my production company, New Thirty Pictures and have written, directed and produced several short films and two feature films. I'm adapting two books into screenplays and my TV series is under option and in development with a production company.
In my acting career I saw so few women in the typical male roles on set - especially directing - so I co-founded Artemisia's Daughters, a non-profit organisation that encourages and inspires women of all ages to consider a career in the film industry.

My teaching is based on my professional experience. I want to encourage new filmmakers - especially women of any/all ages - to start writing and making films.
The hour long sessions will start with about 20-30 mins with stories from my acting and directing experiences with the remaining hour for questions from the student and practical advice given.
Writing tools; fundraising (I've run 3 successful crowdfunding campaigns), producing, finding crew, working with a cinematographer, working with actors, editors, composers and other collaborators.
I'm of the opinion that you don't (necessarily) need to pay for an expensive film school. The film industry is a meritocracy and experience is key.
These classes are for people thinking about becoming filmmakers but with no clue where to start and for those with a few shorts under their belts who are ready for their first adventure into feature film.
