About Frances
I am currently a student at the University of Southampton studying Biomedical Sciences and have always had a passion for STEM, intending to base my future career in this area.
In one capacity or another I have been teaching young people for 5 years, beginning in youth organisations with subjects such as first aid and marine engineering and moving on later to the traditional academic subjects of Maths and Sciences. I have experience in both online and in person teaching and thus am highly adaptable to the needs of students and have a strong awareness of the different resources I have at my disposal when it comes to delivering content.
I want to pass on my passion for my subjects to the students that I teach, as this will make the experience both more
enjoyable and more effective for them. It is very important to me that those I work with feel they are getting the most out of their time and are progressing. By the end of the course I endeavour to have made students feel both secure in their knowledge and prepared to tackle exam style questions in a time pressured environment.

I believe in evolving my process based on works best for the student, but will always base it around three steps: absorbing, repeating, and testing. I will guide the student through the content using a variety of presentation methods including videos, diagrams, and bullet points. Next I will assign a consolidation task such as the student repeating concepts back to me from memory or in their own words. The last step is to apply the knowledge by answering relevant exam questions.
A typical session will last an hour, the first 15 minutes a recap of the last session, 30 minutes covering new content, and the last 15 testing and consolidating the newly acquired content.
I have a level three teaching qualification awarded by charity youth organisation SCC, have taught young people marine engineering for the SCC and have a 100% student pass rate. Yearly, I Invigilation in exam halls so I am familiar with what is expected of students under exam conditions. I have also worked in GCSE revision video production for Physics and Maths Tutor, a successful tuition and revision resource company, and hosted webinars and workshops for the Oxbridge Formula. I have run small group revision workshops for GCSE students and am fully DBS checked.
I teach maths and sciences for students working towards their GCSEs (year 10 and upwards).
