About Marwan
Maths has always been something I’ve enjoyed, and even at school I was the person my friends would come to when they needed help understanding it. I achieved A*s in both A-Level Maths and Further Maths, with Further Maths being something I self-studied in just one year without a teacher.
I’m currently a third-year Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering student at the University of Birmingham. During my second year, I was an Academic Lead for the Electrical Engineering Society, where I delivered weekly Maths lessons to first-year engineering students.
Over my years of teaching, one of the most rewarding things has been seeing students go from struggling with or disliking Maths to genuinely enjoying it. I’ve inspired students to continue studying Maths at a higher level, and several have gone on to pursue engineering, which is something I’m particularly proud of.

My approach to Maths is simple: understanding comes first, then practice. I make sure students fully understand each concept and break difficult ideas down into simple steps before moving on to lots of practice questions. Maths isn’t about memorising methods; it’s about understanding how and why they work.
A major part of my lessons is past-paper practice. The more exam questions students solve, the more confident and prepared they become for different question styles. I don’t expect students to study for crazy amounts of time — consistency and effective practice are far more important than simply studying for long hours.
