About Amara Vivian

Hi there! I’m Amara Vivian, and I’m thrilled to be your guide on this exciting learning journey. With a passion for teaching and a diverse background, I bring a wealth of experience and a friendly approach to tutoring.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and another Bachelor’s degree from Western Governors University. Right now, I’m diving deep into my Master’s in Data Science at Western Governors University, blending my love for data with my passion for teaching.

My journey in education has been a rewarding one. I’ve spent over 5 years tutoring K-12 students and college-aged adults, covering subjects like English, Literacy, Reading, and Test Prep. I’ve also had the joy of working with young children as a pre-school and kindergarten teacher, which has given me a solid foundation in early education.

In addition to tutoring, I’ve had the opportunity to work with amazing organizations like the United Nations Association and city government programs. Over the past 8 years, I’ve promoted and taught literacy to both adults and kids, which has been incredibly fulfilling.

One of the things I love most is connecting with students from all walks of life. I’m fluent in five languages and currently learning two more, so I understand the challenges of learning a new language and can offer support to ESL students with empathy and expertise.

Whether you’re a young student, a college prep student, or an adult looking to boost your skills, I’m here to make learning engaging, enjoyable, and effective. Let’s work together to unlock your full potential and make learning a fun adventure!

Teaching Method and Techniques:
As a tutor, I believe in creating a supportive and interactive learning environment where students feel comfortable and motivated. My teaching methods are tailored to each student's unique needs and learning style. I use a combination of visual aids, interactive activities, and real-life examples to make lessons engaging and relatable. I emphasize the importance of understanding fundamental concepts before moving on to more complex topics, ensuring a solid foundation for future learning.

Typical Lesson Plan:

Warm-Up (5-10 minutes): Brief review of the previous lesson and a fun, engaging activity to get the student in the right mindset.
Introduction (10 minutes): Introduce the new topic with a clear explanation and real-life examples.
Interactive Learning (20-30 minutes): Engage the student with activities such as reading passages, practice problems, or discussion questions. Use visual aids and interactive tools to enhance understanding.
Guided Practice (15-20 minutes): Work through examples together, gradually increasing difficulty. Provide immediate feedback and support.
Independent Practice (10-15 minutes): Allow the student to apply what they've learned independently, offering guidance as needed.
Review and Q&A (10 minutes): Recap the key points of the lesson, answer any questions, and discuss the next steps or assignments.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
Personalized Approach: I take the time to understand each student's strengths, weaknesses, and learning preferences, tailoring my lessons to meet their specific needs.
Experience and Qualifications: With over 5 years of tutoring experience and currently pursuing a Master's degree at Western Governors University, I bring both practical knowledge and academic expertise to my teaching.
Engaging and Motivating: I strive to make learning enjoyable and meaningful, using creative techniques to keep students engaged and motivated.
Focus on Confidence Building: I not only teach the subject matter but also work on boosting my students' confidence, helping them to become more independent learners.

Who the Lessons Are For:
My tutoring services are designed for:
Elementary to High School Students: Covering English, Literacy, Reading, and Test Prep.
College Prep: Assisting high school students in preparing for college entrance exams and improving their reading and writing skills.
Individuals Seeking Improvement: Anyone looking to enhance their English language skills, whether for academic, professional, or personal growth.
