About Shannon
I am currently a Learning Support Assistant in a West London secondary school with a passion for maths and over six years of tutoring experience. Having achieved a Level 7 (A) in GCSE Maths and studied it at A-Level, I now run intervention groups and offer personalized tutoring to help students bridge learning gaps. My experience includes working with a range of students in different subjects but mainly Maths, including A Level students. My goal is to become a maths teacher, inspiring students to develop a love for the subject and helping them achieve their potential.
I am currently a Learning Support Assistant in a West London secondary school, currently completing an SKE in Maths and starting my Secondary Maths PGCE with the view to become a secondary school maths teacher. I’ve tutored for over six years across KS1–KS5, focusing on GCSE and A-Level Maths, and I have extensive experience supporting SEND learners, including students with dyscalculia. I chose to teach because, working in classrooms every day, I kept meeting capable students who’d lost confidence in maths; I wanted to rebuild that confidence with clear explanations and targeted practice.
In school, I run Maths intervention groups and an after-school programme for Year 7 to bridge the primary-to-secondary gap, and I have taken part in an in-school tuition programme.
Recent results include a Year 13 SEN student moving from a predicted U to a D at A Level in four months with tailored routines and consistent guidance, and a Year 11 progressing from a predicted U to a secure Grade 2 in four weeks through focused QLA, daily fluency, and exam-technique coaching. While results will always vary, I’ve seen how quickly progress—and belief—can return with the right plan.
I achieved a Grade 7 (A) at GCSE Maths and studied Maths at A-Level. I’m open to working with any age or starting point, and my goal is simple: rebuild confidence, close gaps, and help students not only meet their targets but actually enjoy maths.

My lessons are personalised and curriculum-matched. I research your exam board, use quick diagnostics and question-level analysis (QLA) to find the highest-impact targets, and build understanding with clear modelling and, where helpful, concrete-pictorial-abstract representations. I have extensive SEND experience—including with dyscalculia—so I adapt language, pacing and visuals to reduce anxiety and make progress stick. I create bespoke resources and track measurable goals so you can see your progress and grow in independence.
A typical 60-minute session starts with a short retrieval warm-up, then focuses on one or two priority topics: I teach the method, we practise together, you try independently, and we finish with exam-style questions and a quick recap/next steps. Between sessions you’ll get light, targeted practice (if you would like). To hit the ground running, bring your exam board, recent assessments or past papers, topics you find toughest, and your usual scientific calculator.
