About Nirvika
Hi everyone! I’m Nirvika, a 3rd-year Psychology student at the University of Melbourne. Having completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) myself, I understand the challenges and rewards of the program. Over the past year, as a peer mentor leader, I’ve honed my skills in supporting students. I’m passionate about teaching IB students in Psychology and English, helping them navigate their studies and achieve their goals. I hope to inspire confidence and share strategies that make the IB journey both manageable and fulfilling.

Techniques and teaching methodology:
1. Individualised Learning Plans: I begin by assessing the student's current understanding and learning goals. Based on this assessment, I create a personalised learning plan that aligns with their specific needs and interests.
2. Active Learning: I emphasise active participation through discussions, problem-solving activities, and hands-on exercises. For Psychology, this may involve case studies, while for English, it may include reading comprehension activities and creative writing prompts, depending on each student’s interests and most effective learning method.
3.Socratic Method: I employ questioning techniques to stimulate critical thinking. This method encourages students to explore concepts deeply and articulate their thoughts, especially useful in subjects like psychology where understanding human behaviour is complex.
4.Multimedia Resources: I incorporate various resources such as videos, articles, and interactive tools to enhance understanding. In psychology, I might use documentaries or podcasts, and for English, I could include literary analyses or poetry readings.
5.Feedback and Reflection: Regular feedback is crucial. I encourage students to reflect on their learning and provide constructive feedback to help them grow. This can include peer reviews for writing assignments or reflective journals in psychology.
6.Assessment and Progress Tracking: I use formative assessments, such as quizzes or informal discussions, to gauge understanding and adapt lessons accordingly. Progress tracking helps motivate students and keeps them accountable
Standard Duration: Typically, lessons last between 60 to 90 minutes. This duration allows for an in-depth exploration of topics while maintaining student engagement.
Flexibility: I am open to adjusting lesson length based on the specific needs of the student or the complexity of the topic being covered.
Qualifications and experience as a tutor:
- My qualifications include a score of 42/45 points for IB in high school, with a perfect score of 7 in Psychology and English.
-A current 3rd year student with a Psychology degree who writes regular lab reports, equipping me with a deeper understanding of the concepts and theories taught in IB
My lessons will be catered to International Baccalaureate students in their final years of high school, prepping them for the exams.

I feel Nirvika has all the requisite competencies and mindset for making a great tutor. I have known her since her birth and the way she loves to impart knowledge and skills to mentees and students is exemplary. She has the guile to vacillate between the highs and the lows of a class to ensure that the her hands on teaching is holistic. I recommend her deservedly for this role and may she continue to shine in whatever she does.
