About Toby
Hi, I'm Toby. I am originally from Whanganui, where I have developed my love of tutoring over the past five years. I enjoy watching students progress and further their comprehension, allowing them to feel more confident and happy at school. I fully relate to the struggles some students face during high school and wish I had somebody to help me when I was struggling. Now I take pride in helping and supporting others so they don't go through the same thing.

I enjoy a one-on-one approach to tutoring, allowing me to adjust my teaching approach to an individual's personal needs. The first lesson will always include getting to know the student a little bit so that they're comfortable, and then figuring out which areas of the curriculum they are and are not confident in. This will allow me to create a lesson plan for each session. Generally, I will dedicate a significant portion of a lesson to teaching concepts, taking time to carefully adjust my explanations or repeat parts to ensure that the student has a complete understanding of the concept. Furthermore, especially in mathematics and science, I will describe the background of a lot of concepts, which is not generally done in the classroom. This is not only critical to achieve full understanding, but also makes the transition from high school to university much smoother. The rest of a lesson will involve practice examples or revision to allow the student to fully absorb the information. A lesson is typically 60 minutes, but can be extended to 90 minutes if further teaching is required.

- Cambridge AS and A Levels, in Pure Mathematics, Statistics, and Mechanics
