About Lucy
I am an experienced and passionate educator, currently working as a Head of Design & Technology, with over seven years of teaching experience across secondary and further education. I hold a BA (Hons) in Graphic & Media Design and a PGCE, bringing together academic knowledge, creative industry expertise and a strong understanding of how students learn.
My specialist subjects include AQA Design & Technology, Product Design, GCSE Art & Design (3D Design) and Food Preparation & Nutrition. As a subject leader, I have extensive experience in curriculum development, GCSE assessment, examination preparation and supporting students to achieve their academic goals.
Alongside my teaching career, I have gained valuable industry experience working with recognised companies, including Tefal and 3M. This background allows me to bring practical, real-world design knowledge into my lessons, helping students connect classroom learning with professional design practices.
I have worked with students of varying abilities, including those with SEND and those who have experienced challenges or disruption in their education. One of my proudest achievements has been supporting students to rebuild their confidence, re-engage with learning and achieve strong academic outcomes.
**My teaching approach is personalised, structured and encouraging.** I take time to understand each student's strengths, areas for improvement and learning needs before developing lessons that address their individual goals.

My lessons are carefully structured, engaging and tailored to each student's individual learning needs. Sessions typically last between one and two hours, allowing sufficient time to explore theoretical knowledge, develop practical design skills and consolidate understanding.
As an experienced Head of Design & Technology, I bring extensive classroom experience, curriculum knowledge and a strong understanding of GCSE assessment requirements. My background in Graphic & Media Design, alongside my teaching qualifications and industry experience, allows me to combine creative thinking with technical expertise.
**Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9)**
I help students develop a strong foundation in Design & Technology by exploring materials, their properties, manufacturing processes and design principles. Lessons encourage creativity, problem-solving, sketching, design development and an introduction to CAD/CAM technologies.
**Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11)**
My GCSE lessons focus on AQA Design & Technology, supporting students with theoretical knowledge, examination preparation, technical understanding and design development.
I provide structured guidance on understanding assessment objectives, developing independent coursework skills, analysing design problems, researching user needs and evaluating design decisions. Students also develop examination techniques and learn how to approach questions confidently.
**My Teaching Approach**
Every student learns differently. I begin by identifying their strengths, areas for improvement and individual goals before adapting lessons to suit their learning needs.
I use visual resources, practical examples, exam-style questions and constructive feedback to help students understand challenging concepts and make measurable progress.
I also have experience supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring lessons are accessible, supportive and appropriately challenging.
My aim is not simply to help students improve their grades, but to develop confident, independent and creative thinkers who can apply their knowledge both inside and outside the classroom.
