About Arshmeet

Hi, my name is Arshmeet Singh, and I am a Mathematics and Statistics student at the University of Manitoba. I tutor math and statistics with a focus on making difficult concepts clear, logical, and less intimidating.

I understand that many students struggle with math not because they are incapable, but because the subject often moves too fast or is explained in a way that feels confusing. My goal is to help students build confidence by breaking problems down step by step and showing them how to think through questions independently.

I can help with topics such as:

Elementary and middle school math
High school math
Algebra, functions, and precalculus
Introductory calculus
Probability and statistics
Data analysis and statistical interpretation
Homework support and exam preparation

My teaching style is patient, structured, and practical. In a typical lesson, I first identify where the student is struggling, then explain the concept clearly, work through examples together, and finally let the student try problems with guidance. I focus not only on getting the right answer, but also on understanding the method behind it.

What sets me apart is that I am still a student myself, so I understand the pressure of assignments, tests, and difficult courses. I know how frustrating it can feel when a concept does not click, and I aim to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions.

Whether you are trying to catch up, prepare for an exam, improve your grades, or build a stronger foundation, I would be happy to help you move forward with confidence.

My Approach as a Math and Statistics Tutor

As a Mathematics and Statistics student at the University of Manitoba, my tutoring approach is based on clarity, patience, and building real understanding rather than memorization. I believe many students struggle with math not because they are “bad at math,” but because the concepts were explained too quickly, too abstractly, or without enough connection to examples.

My goal is to help students understand why a method works, not just how to follow steps.

Teaching Methodology and Techniques

I use a step-by-step teaching method that breaks difficult topics into smaller, manageable parts. I usually begin by identifying what the student already understands, where they are confused, and what their immediate goal is, such as homework help, test preparation, or improving overall confidence.

My techniques include:

Explaining concepts in simple language before introducing formal formulas
Using examples and practice problems to reinforce understanding
Connecting abstract ideas to real-life situations when possible
Encouraging students to explain their reasoning out loud
Identifying repeated mistakes and correcting the root misunderstanding
Adjusting the pace based on the student’s comfort level
Focusing on problem-solving strategy, not just the final answer

For statistics, I especially focus on interpretation. Many students can calculate an answer but struggle to explain what it means. I help students understand the logic behind data, probability, sampling, hypothesis testing, regression, and statistical conclusions.

Typical Lesson Plan

A typical lesson would look like this:

1. Quick check-in and goal setting
We begin by identifying what the student wants to work on: homework, exam preparation, a confusing topic, or general skill-building.

2. Diagnose the problem
I ask the student to attempt a question or explain what they currently understand. This helps me find the exact gap in their knowledge.

3. Concept explanation
I explain the topic clearly using simple examples, visuals, formulas, and step-by-step reasoning.

4. Guided practice
We solve problems together. I first demonstrate the method, then guide the student through similar examples.

5. Independent attempt
The student tries a problem on their own while I observe their process and correct mistakes.

6. Review and summary
At the end, I summarize the key ideas, common mistakes, and the steps they should remember.

7. Practice plan
I suggest specific problems or study techniques for the student to continue improving after the lesson.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

What sets me apart is that I understand both the technical side and the emotional side of learning math. I know that math can feel frustrating, intimidating, or overwhelming when the foundation is weak. Because I am still a student myself, I can relate to how students think, where they get stuck, and what explanations actually help.

I do not just give answers. I teach students how to think through problems logically and independently. My background in both Mathematics and Statistics allows me to help students with computational skills, abstract reasoning, and data-based thinking.

I am also patient, adaptable, and focused on long-term improvement. My goal is not only to help a student finish one assignment, but to help them become more confident and capable in future classes.

Who the Lessons Are For

My lessons are suitable for students who need help with:

Elementary and middle school mathematics
High school mathematics
Introductory university mathematics
Introductory statistics
Probability and data analysis
Exam preparation
Homework support
Students who feel behind and need to rebuild their foundation
Students who want a clearer, more structured explanation of difficult topics

I can support students at different levels, from basic arithmetic and algebra to more advanced topics such as calculus, probability, statistical inference, regression, and university-level introductory math/statistics courses.

Overall, my tutoring style is structured, patient, and focused on genuine understanding. I aim to make math and statistics less intimidating and more logical for every student I work with.
